Whats your experience of potty training books for toddlers?
Hiya, over the past few months I have been introducing the potty to my 2 year old boy, he knows what it is, will go and get it, sit on it for 2 seconds stands up and cheers even though hes done nothing in it, then pees on the carpet next to it and says "oh no" lol so its work in progress but I thought it would be better when the warmer weather came in and washing and drying lots of wet pants and having a bare / wet bum wont be a problem!
Hes really into books, loves pictures, pointing to things and being read to, so I was thinking a potty training book would be ideal! What do you think? Did you use one, did it help?
Any recommendations would be great! Thanks!
My MIL bought my 20 month old a potty book, just a few pages hard book and he loves it. We are nowhere near potty training stage yet but my son now recognises his potty from the one in the book? He’ll sit on it with no nappy on and i think when we do decide to train him in a few months he will respond well due to the book? He even points to the Mom in the book and says Mommy! Its called My Potty Book- A potty book for little boys, its purply cover with a little boy on a green potty, by parragon and written by Kathryn Smith.
Hope that helps, like you im waiting for warmer weather! And plus im about to giv birth to number 2 so going to wait til its all settled!
Good Luck! Kay xx

i think a book to read to the boy about going to the toilet is a good idea. Go for it, anything that reinforces the behaviour you want is good.
i never used anything like that. i never used a potty. why should the kid go in a potty in the middle of the lounge when ideally you want them to go in the actual toilet?! you can get those little mini seats that go in the loo over top sorta thing.
any way, all kids are different. my son was still wearing naps full time right up until about 3, then night naps for a few more months.
anything to make life easier i say! and as long as they are not still wearing a nappy to school, Who Cares?

The only use of a book is to show a child that it’s normal to use a potty .However I personally think potty training on a potty is for retarded or unexpeienced parents .Get a stand up box next to the toilet seat so the child can use a normal toilet and remember that it is abusive to expect very young child to use a potty. The question of poo can be more a personal issue for parents than children .By using a normal toilet you are integrating the child into the equality of the mammalian family.

At the nursery where I work, we have a little book that we use to show the toilet training children. We have a picture of our toilets, a picture of the potties and a picture of a sink. It does help them realise that this is where they need to go when they need a wee. Have you tried taking him to the toilet to change him? When you do, reinforce it with words. Say "we need to get this wee in the potty next time." Reward him when he gets it right but don’t punish him when he gets it wrong.
