Reusable training pants for toddler potty training?

Does anyone know if they make washable training pants for potty training toddlers? My son is 21 months and needs something easier to pull down than his diapers. I hate the expense and waste of disposable training pants and the fact they pull the moisture away from his skin so he doesn’t feel it. I just want something where he will feel the moisture but not necessarily have it leak all over his pants. Suggestions?

Yes, they make basically plastic coated thick underwear. I can’t remember if we got them at Target or Kmart, but it was somewhere like that. My daughter hated them though because they were really uncomfortable. We ended up using disposable pull-ups for awhile then when she had the hang of things moved to the other kind of training underwear which are basically just very thick underwear (I think you are supposed to use a plastic cover with them but we didn’t) – they would leak if she had an accident but contained it enough that the floor wouldn’t get soaked.

If you suspect your baby is prepared for potty training, there are some supplies you’ll need prior to beginning the method. Potty training pants are a must to replace voluminous nappies.

They now make different kinds for girls and boys, some of which have beloved toon characters on them.

These pull on lingerie are less absorbent than nappies, meaning your youngster will be uncomfortable when wet or dirtied yet still keep some protection from leaks. This can give them some encouragement to head off to the potty next time instead of using their training pants. One convenient thing about training pants is that they can be ripped at the sides so that you can change your infant just as you would if they were wearing a diaper. This prevents mess from pulling dirtied pants down. However after so long of soiling their training pants, most infants are going to express some interest in the potty, particularly if they have their own potty seat. There are chairs you put on the floor of your lavatory as well as seats that fit right on your adult toilet. Allowing your kid to choose their potty seat is a great idea because then they are going to be likelier to use it. If you want some assistance, pick up a potty training guide for mothers and fathers or instructional potty training DVD.

Or, simply express your worries to your child’s pediatrician. They can offer you practical potty training tips and even help you decide if you’re training your youngster too early. While some youngsters are prepared for the potty at eighteen months, others take quite a lot longer. Potty training pants are available in the same aisle as nappies. You’ll notice they come less in a pack and cost more. You’ll be able to find universal brands which can help to save you some cash. Some parents use training pants only for night and put their kid in underwear throughout the day. This will actually save you on the price of the training pants, and maybe encourage your kid to use the potty because they’re wearing big-boy or big-girl underclothes.

Also, as you may imagine wet or dirtied undies isn’t cosy, so after 1 or 2 accidents your kid should become more observant about using the potty if they’re ready to do it.

This article sets out to provide you with 3 easy steps to begin potty train your baby. I came out with these steps based on my own personal experience in training my baby when it comes to ‘using the potty’.

It all started with my baby’s peculiar way of passing motion. Since she was born, she had the habit of only passing motion once a day or once every two days. And you can imagine the amount of ‘poo’ in her diaper when she does her business.

As it was a really messy affair (not to mention the frequent staining of mattress), I was desperate for a quick solution. I shared with a friend who recommended her mother’s way of potty training, that is to hold the baby over the potty and tell her to ‘poo’ into the potty on a regular basis. It is best to be done every day at a fixed time so as to regulate the bowel movement and for the baby to get used to the timing.

And this was exactly what my mother, my husband, and I did with our baby from as early as when she was just 2 weeks old. And our consistent effort paid off, from just 1-month plus old, my baby is able to urinate and ‘poo’ into the potty every time we hold her over the potty.

With this success, I like to provide you with 3 easy steps whereby you can also achieve the same result.

Step 1:

Of course, start off by purchasing a potty! J

Step 2:

Gauge roughly when your baby passes motion. Some babies do it after feeding; some do it in the morning etc.

Decide on a fixed time e.g. in the morning after bath, in the afternoon after feed, or in the evening before sleep based on when he/she does her business and when it is convenient for you.

Then consistently hold your baby over the potty at the appointed time. Remember to hold him/her back against your front body for support. Different people do it differently e.g. my mother does it sitting down on a stool while my husband does it standing over a table with the potty on the table.

However you choose to do it, just bear in mind your baby’s safety and your own comfort.

Step 3:

Do not give up if you do not succeed at first try. The key is to keep doing it until your baby gets it. Some babies may learn it faster, some slower. It does not matter.

As long as you are consistently doing it, you baby will get it eventually.

Just to share another success story. That day, my husband was holding our baby over the potty. At first, my husband didn’t say anything or make any sound. Our baby looked at him and then he said ‘Poo Poo, Baby’. Our baby then looked away and bent over slightly and started pushing, and out came the ‘poo’. She just turned 4-month old that day.

Remember you can do this as early as when you baby is just 1-month old. However remember to hold him/her tightly and safely that he/she does not fall over.

I am sure you have your own effective ways to potty train your baby. I love to hear from you at my blog, http://firstparents.blogspot.com/

Gillian Low, first-time parent who is interested in early childhood stimulation and education. So far, she has succeeded in training her 3-month old baby girl to sleep on her own. Not only is her baby girl able to sleep through the night at week-11, she is also ‘potty trained’ at 2-month old. Check out Gillian’s blog http://firstparents.blogspot.com/ for more details.

    One-day Dr. Phil Potty Training

There are a lot of methods for potty training; one that is worth taking into account is Dr. Phil’s technique. Make a start by getting an anatomically correct doll. This will set as the example for your child. This technique takes into account that your child, at this stage, has the desire to imitate adults especially you as parents. You can use the doll to teach your child, by exemplifying, how to use the toilet.

Give the doll a name. Let your child give the name for the model. Your child will regard the model as his best pal for her to follow.

Offer it a drink. Soon after drinking, have the doll walk toward the potty chair. Pull down its big-kid underwear. Let it use the potty. By presenting a different routine, she will be attracted in learning the whole process in a new light. And it is easier for her to follow because of the visual representation.

After a successful use of the potty, help your child throw a party for the doll. With balloons, a cake and by wearing party hats, you show her that the success is such a big deal.

Praise the doll and let your child be envy about it. While holding the party, let your toddler be familiar with the situation where she too will have a special potty party if successful.

So move on and commence the toilet training. Throw out all the diapers if let your child feel that there is no back-up plan for this. You will also get rid of temptation to revert back to diapers. Then have your child in new big kid underwear. Have her potty training doll companion in big kid underwear too.

Offering your child plenty of fluids maximizes the opportunity for your child to succeed at using the potty. This will make her need to go more often. Offer her a drink on a regular basis, say every hour, to encourage the most probability to be successful.

Every half hour remind your child to use the toilet. If she forgot and wets herself, don’t scold her, instead support her to practice. By walking to the potty and sitting on it ten times, this will build muscle memory on her so that next time, her body knows what to do.

When your child accomplishes the training successfully, it is the moment for that promised potty party. Wear the party hats and bring out the cake and balloons. Make a celebration of her achievement. Maintain the regular offers to use the toilet and congratulate each victorious attempt.

By following the Dr. Phil method, every child can be trained to use the potty in just a day. As a parent, you have to be consistent and keep on praising your child’s efforts. With the first success, you are getting closer to a diaper-free child. As our children develop from babies to active diaper-free toddlers, we will soon realize the delight of not having any more diapers to change. So go on, test the Dr. Phil’s method now.

How do you potty train 3 toddlers?

I have an at home daycare and I am trying to potty train a 3 year old boy and two 2 year old girls.

Routine is the key. You should have set bathroom times when everyone has to try to go. Eventually they’ll learn to go then. We used magic toilet water (blue food coloring). When a child went it would change color. We also gave them a stamp on their hand after going in the toilet (it’s amazing what children will do to get a stamp on their hand!) I found that targeting one child at a time was a good method. Eveyone would be encouraged…but one would be my goal…then I’d move on to the next one. When toilet training was accomplished the child was presented with their very own pair of big boy or big girl underpants to wear to daycare!

The main thing is to help them to feel proud of the fact that they are leaving their diapers behind.

    Good luck!
