i have an 18 month old and i know it’s still kind of early, but when is a good time to start potty training and how?
btw, my child is a boy.

When your child is ready. You can introduce them to the potty but if they aren’t into learning they won’t, and forcing them will just frustrate you and them, instead be patient and encourage. The most common way I know of is to bring the potty out and let them sit on it for a couple minutes while watching tv, when they are comfortable enough to go on it then they can go on the real toilet

Toilet Potty Training

Successfully potty training boys is said to take a longer time than girls. Nobody can really tell the reason why, but most people consider the fact the it is the mommies who are the potty-trainers, and considering the difference between males and females, girls are usually the ones who immediately get the idea of toilet potty training since they are physically like their mommies. Boys on the other hand would need a male role model to completely get the right procedure.

Another reason may also be because, more than learning the basics of potty training, boys need to also learn and master the proper way of peeing standing up. At first, boys need to learn to pee sitting down since peeing and pooping usually come at the same time at least for the first few months thus, it would be easier to toilet train them that way.

After a few months or so, when your son can now pee sitting down by himself, he is ready to go to the next step: learning to pee standing up. This would require a male role model so it is better to ask his dad, an older brother or an uncle for help. Make your son go with his male role model to the bathroom and see for himself how it is done. After a while, he can try doing it himself.

To help him perfect the proper way of peeing standing up, here are some potty training tips that you could try:

Aiming takes a lot of practice and so you must be ready to do little wipe-ups here and there before your boy can actually do it right. Show him how to point his penis down so that he won’t spray his pee around the bathroom. It would also be helpful if he has a target to which he can aim his pee. One potty training tip suggests Cheerio cereals, paper boats or any other small, floating and flushable products as useful and fun targets.

Making toilet potty training fun for him can also help. Instead of floating cheerios, you could also try draining the water from the bowl, then painting a red target. his could be another way of perfecting his aim.

Training could also be made fun with his role model. On a trip to the woods for example, or somewhere where it is private, the boy can practice his aim. In the winter, father and son could have a peeing party while trying to right in the snow.

It would also help to make everything about toilet potty training comfortable for the boy. If the boy can not reach the toilet bowl, give him a boost by letting him stand on your toes or providing a safe platform on which he can stand. But, be sure that the toilet seat is secure enough not to fall down on your little boy as he is urinating or is guarded enough to prevent him from scraping his penis. You wouldn’t want his potty experience to be a painful one.

Toilet potty training your young boy won’t be much of a problem for you if you make it fun and easy for your son. Without the stress of trying to learn something new and perfecting it, your young one could learn to go to the potty with ease.

My daughter is going to be three in March soon. We want to start potty training her but her Dr. told us to wait 3 months because I just had a baby boy in Nov.. She wanting to be train now but we want to wait until her brother three months. So what tips do you have so we can make it easier for her to train when we start.

Well, your daughter is older so you should make it a big special thing. Let her help you take out the potty and put in the bathroom. Tell her it’s her special potty seat and that when she sits on it she is a big girl. Reading books to her about using the potty is a great idea, and showing her with her favorite doll or stuffed animal is helpful too. Through out the diapers and buy some Pull ups or even go straight to regular undies, and tell her that those are her big girl pants, she has to go in the potty and keep them dry. Reward her each time she uses the potty, stickers are great for this! But don’t make a big deal when she has accidents (because she will!) just calmly remind her that she needs to sit on the potty next time and change her. Be patient, it take some time but she’ll get it.

You can even empty the dirty diapers into the potty chair or in the toilet and make him/her understand what you expect them to do.

This can ensure you that the child can run to the toilet and remove their pants without the any assistance. Such kind of readiness is known as physical readiness. Psychological readiness also plays an important role in potty training. If your child is not bothered about the wet or dirty diaper then potty training is of no use. Make them understand that wet or dirty diaper are not good and should use to toilet when the need arises.

Many mothers and fathers claim that boys are more difficult to potty-train than girls, and in a number of cases this is right. However taking the correct approach to potty coaching boys can make a significant difference. The number 1 thing is to be certain your kid is prepared to be trained. While the average age of youngsters who potty-train is between eighteen and thirty six months, boys are usually at the later end of the scale. So it’s vital to remain patient till you notice signs that your kid is ready to be toilet trained. If your kid is keeping dry for 2 hours or even more, that may be a sign. They might also express interest in using the giant potty or wearing undies.

Taking your child purchasing underwear can help a good deal, there are shorts with all types of fave characters on them that your youngster will adore. Also, let him be part of selecting the potty seat. There are seats that sit on the floor and the ones that are placed on the adult toilet seat so your youngster can nicely sit without falling in. These seats also generally have handles so your youngster feels safer. It is simpler to teach your youngster the correct way to sit on the potty than it is to show them to stand up when they need to piss.

Many youngsters learn how to have stool movements in the potty first, particularly boys. Some boys will go forward and piss sitting when they’re coaching, as an important point many potty seats have guards for this very purpose so piss does not get everywhere and goes in the bowl. Once your boy has mastered the potty sitting, it’s time to teach him to stand up when he needs to piss. Here’s where Father turns out to be useful, it can actually help potty coaching boys to look at their dad and see precisely how it’s done.

Most boys wish to match their elders, so this could definitely help inspire your child’s inducement. Another tip is to work out a schedule for taking the kid to their potty seat. Attempt to appraise when they are probably going to ‘go ‘ by watching them for roughly a week, then tailor the times you lead them to the potty around when they’re most inclined to have to use it.

We have started potty training our 16 month old daughter . She has all of the "ready signs " we have discussed this topic with her Pediatrician and she says go for it . I say this to resist anyone from mentioning that she is too young . She has already urinated in the adult toilet 5 times in 2 days . She is very smart and has been very pround of herself . I also want to stress that we are very gentle with this matter . We are not pushing her into anything . She is very excited to sit on the toilet and pee . I am wondering about the pros and cons of using a potty seat versus an insert for the adult toilet . Any potty tips would be helpful . Also , did anyone let their toddler run around naked to ease training ? How did that go ? Did anyone put the potty seat any where other than the bathroom for easier access ? Please only loving answers !

When I worked at daycare, we had the potty seats, even though they had the "low to the ground" toilets. It’s kind of scary for them, since it’s high up, and nearly as tall as they are. Also, with a potty chair, they can be a bit more independant.
I wouldn’t recommend putting it anywhere other than the bathroom, that may breed a nasty exhibitionist habit, though unlikely, I would feel better safe than sorry.
I’ve heard using cloth diapers works well for pottytraining. They aren’t half as absorbent as regular diapers, so they get uncomfortable when they soil themselves. That would also save you money.
Once she gets well in practice, take her shopping. Let her pick out whatever underwear she likes. Help her understand that if she doesn’t go potty like a big girl, she will get her pretty, new underwear all dirty and yucky. It’s good motivation.
And kudos to you on pottytraining early! It is very possible to do, if your child is willing. It’s just a lot of work, which is why I think so many parents put it off until their children are much older. I plan to get my daughter a pottychair as soon as she’s walking around, so she can get familiar with it. I’m hoping that she will take it from there! (sooner, rather than later, LOL)

Potty training is one of the most important things your puppy must learn. Common sense should tell you why it is the most vital part of raising a puppy and has to be done consistently to be effective. Apart from the maintenance of your household hygiene, trained dogs are happy dogs.

There are numerous ways to potty train your puppy, depending on your circumstances and dog type. Paper training is suitable for puppies that have not been vaccinated yet and for those who live in high raise apartments where access to a garden by the dog itself is almost impossible.

Crate training, suitable for urban living dogs make use of the dog’s instinctive nature of not messing up their sleeping area to train the dog to control its bladder and relieve only when he is out of the crate.

The common choice would be to train your dog to go outside to the back yard or the garden to relieve.

The idea potty training age is when your puppy reaches the age of 8 to 12 weeks old. Remember the adage about how old dogs can’t learn new tricks? It is not completely true but right in some ways because it is much easier to train a younger dogs when undesirable habits are not formed. So, don’t take any chances.

There are many ways in life to achieve the same desired results. Of them, there are hard ways and easy ways, right ways and wrong ways. The best course of action is to use the easiest and fastest way to get the right results. This requires a lot of supervision and positive reinforcement. Let’s see how best to achieve what we want in order to potty train our new puppy.

To begin, you should allocate an area for your puppy to eliminate outside or inside the house, you should show him the way to this spot and praise him generously after he finishes

If you praise and reward him immediately after he finishes his job, it encourages him to eliminate in that area alone. The urine odor will be detectable by your puppy and he will learn to associate it as the place to relieve himself.

To help the puppy to remember, always use the same door and spot where you want your puppy to eliminate. Use soiled newspaper to mark the area and hint your puppy on where is the right spot.

Next is to make your puppy learn about his elimination routines. Dogs are habitual animals; they are born instinctively to keep to routines. When your puppy is six to eight weeks old, you should bring him out to relieve after every few hours. The frequency will reduce as he grows older and can control his bladder better. During puppy hood, take him to the allocated elimination area at the following times of the day – Upon waking in the morning, after naps, meals, play, training sessions and just before bedtime.

Taking your pup out at around the same time every day will be very beneficial for the both of you. This will help in establishing a routine, and will make him learn to hold it in until you become available to take him out.

At this time, you must learn how to look for clues, if your puppy is accustomed to roaming freely around the house, search for signs that show you he needs to do it. Be really observant of his behavior, such as, heavy sniffing, circling an area, staring at the door with an intense look on his face.

You can train your dog with two more commands to help him understand potty training faster. Use “Hurry up”, or “Potty now”, command to associate it with potty time. So, say “hurry up” or “potty” in an encouraging tone just when he gets the urge to “go”. Your puppy will understand and associate the command with potty time, and will get down to relieve himself. Once he’s done, praise him lavishly.

During potty training, your puppy is bound to make mistakes like any other puppies. In part 2 of this article, you will learn how to excuse his mistakes and more tips to help you train your puppy in double quick time

Your puppy is your new family member and if trained correctly will give you lots of joy for many years to come.
