Potty Training Tips: is My Child Ready?

How will I know my child is ready to begin potty training?

This is by far one of the most common questions and concerns parents have when considering beginning their toddlers on toilet training. After all, it can sometimes be difficult, as much for parents as for their children, to take the plunge into big-kidhood. So, what’s the answer? Sooner than you think.

In fact, experts recommend parents begin to potty train their kids between the ages of 18 and 24 months. Beyond age, the most important determinants of when a child is ready is whether or not the child is able to fulfill certain “readiness requirements”, such as being steady on her feet and able to sit on the toilet. Showing an interest in using the potty is another great sign your child is ready to begin.

How Can I Help Ensure My Child’s Success?

This is a great question. Many parents are curious how to potty train their child so that he or she will be guaranteed success. And while no method claims to be problem-free, the good news is there are potty training techniques out there that can make an otherwise lengthy and painful process relatively quick and easy.

In fact, both the Easy Potty Training and Potty Training Basics guides provide potty training advice that is not only easy to follow, but also extremely successful.

And no matter what method you choose, the best and only way to ensure your child’s transition from diapers to the toilet is a lasting one is to be consistent. Your child must understand her days of diapers are over, or she will never grasp the concept.

How Long Will it Take to Potty Train My Child?

This is another common question. For those parents who have tried potty trained before, you might have been intimidated by the so-called “experts”, claiming parents should be prepared to dedicate 3 months to the potty training process, as a minimum.

If that sounds like too long for you, then you’re not alone. Thanks to the potty training methods described above, you can have your child successfully potty trained in only three days!

Just read these parents’ success stories for real-life tales of potty training done right!

Easy Potty Training was designed for busy mothers, by a busy mother. The advice it provides will help parents to successfully potty train their child in less than one week!

his potty. I know that I need to punish him for doing this, but he’s sick right now so I don’t want to get too close to him and catch what he has.

Any suggestions?

That’s why I bought a shock collar when my son was just a baby. If he is sick, or dirty, or has boogers coming out of his nose I can just shock him for punishment instead of having to touch him.

You should look into getting one.

potty training?

When did you/will you start potty training your toddler and what methods did/will you use? How effective was your way? My son is a year old and knows how to take off his diaper after he does #1 or #2, everyone says he’ll be easy to potty train and that I should start soon.

My son will be 2 years old this month. He use to do the same thing, so I started playing around with it. I would take him to the bathroom and let him sit on his potty. But I wouldn’t let him play with it, I let it be known the potty was to use the bathroom. I also think pull ups confuse kids. Kids know the difference between a diper or real big boy pants so I never used those pull up things. If you think your son is ready and and it sounds like to me he is you should start trying even if it isn’t but for just a couple of hours a day. just don’t push it too hard. Like I said my son isn’t even two yet and he hasn’t had an accident in about 3 months now. Just trust your mommy powers to lead you to what you think is the right choice. And Good luck!

Child Potty Training

How to train a child for potty?

This is the major question which must be arising in your mind. Before training the child it is important to understand the nature and body language of your child. Children are basically very moody by nature and so it is essential to deal effectively with them. Once they start the bombarding of their questions then it may become difficult for parents to answer them. While giving your potty training to your child, they may ask you several questions. During this period of time it is necessary for parents to maintain their cool and answer their questions tactfully.

Child potty training requires lot of patience, time and attentiveness as it is considered to be the most tedious job. It is the duty of parents to understand the gestures of their child. If you want your child to be hygienic then give them proper potty training at proper age. After 18 or 24 month you can start giving your child potty training. Normally small children are always in the playing mood, and so potty training must be given to them in such a way that it should become joyful activity for them.

Potty training has big procedure and you should make your child understand the whole procedure. Child potty training involves-

· Maintaining schedule of your child.

· Making them realize that they need to go to for elimination.

· Your child must get used to certain sounds like “sssssss” or “pee pee”, so that by hearing this sound he may do the elimination process quickly.

· They must first remove their pants and their underwear.

· He or she should know that they have to sit down on the potty.

· Child must also learn to clean himself to maintain hygiene.

· He must also know how to flush.

· After that he or she needs to wash their hands and get back to their normal routine.

Child can understand more quickly what they observe rather than what they listen. So if you show them the procedure they will understand it more accurately. Even if this does not work then there are various DVDs and videos available in the market, which can help your child to understand the concept precisely.

There are varieties of potty chairs available in the market which can be used for child potty training. To make the training more enjoyable for your child you can use potties such as padded potties, musical potties, replica potties, portable potties, car potties, chamber pots etc. To encourage your child you can even use potty training sticker charts.

By appropriate child potty training use of diapers can be reduced drastically. It can also improve the bond of the child with his or her parents. Potty training……?

My 14 month old daughter(and only child) is showing interest in the potty. She actually has been since she was around 9-10 months. She wants to be in there all the time when I go in. If she doesn’t, then she gets mad then cries, and pounds on the door. lol But when she is, she gets this excited look on her face and gasps & claps.(so cute) For now, I just take her in and sit her down on her potty(with diapers still on of course) when I’m in there. So I want to know how some of you went about starting your toddlers on potty training, and what techniques did you use?? =)

The big question is how much is she using the bathroom through the night…if she is still wetting alot at night you will not be able to completely train her until she has no problems going through the night. There is nothing wrong with getting her mind in the game and letting her try to use the potty when you do. Thats great. I know everyone says that pullups are a crutch but if you use them this early they will actually benefit you. Get her a potty of her own but make sure it doesn’t have too many gadgets on it or it will take her mind off of what you are trying to get her to do. Just don’t turn her away from going on the potty. If she struggles for months with getting it down, well thats just potty training for you. Not really an easy thing.

How to Potty Train Your Child

How to potty train the child is the biggest question that most of parents face. This is because changing the habit of the child from nappies to using a potty is something very difficult. The parents are mainly worried about the amount of time they will take to potty train. But it totally depends upon the child, some may take few days and some may take a year too. You and your child can be successful in potty training if you are aware of the fundamentals of training, so that the process becomes easy for you.

The question how to potty train can be overcome by following a few steps.

The first step towards potty training is to notice whether your child is physically and emotionally prepared for the training. Watch out for the signs like child imitating other’s bathroom habits. Do not force your child for anything unless and until he/she is ready.

To start with the training you need to have a good potty chair for your child with which you can train the child. The potty chair that you select must be a comfortable one so that he can easily fit his feet. You can also use the explanatory book or video provided by the seller of the potty chair, to grab your child interest.

It is very important for you to maintain a proper routine for the baby. This will help the child to get use to it. If he/she does not show the interest in the potty it’s better to stop the potty training for few days, weeks or months.

Sit your child without nappy on the potty seat. Notice the reaction and feeling when the child is sitting there. This is when you will make your child understand that what your parents do every day and make the child realize that he/she is grown up. When he/she goes in the nappy, you should take him to the potty, make him sit near you and empty the nappy in the potty bowl. This will help him to make connection. And then show to flush it off and this all will help him to understand the whole process. Do not forget to teach him to dress himself/herself and wash the hands one’s done with it.

After this it is very important that you encourage your child use the potty whenever he/she feels the urge to go. It is advisable that you bring attractive and fascinating pants for your child during the training process so that you do not make use of nappy. Your child may go through some accidents before completely trained. Your child may take few more days for the night time potty training. The body of the child is actually immature to wake him up in the middle of the night and so you must not allow him/ her to drink too much before going to bed. You can even tell the child to let you know whenever he feels like going. In this way you can successfully potty train your child.

We are currently in the process of introducing potty training to our almost 22 month old, and I would like to find some literature for myself and my husband to read. Does anyone know of any good books for parents? Also we would like to find a picture book for our daughter too. Does anyone have recommendations?

We used this book when training our daughter (29 months old at the time) and it worked great!

Potty Training Made Easy

If you’re the parent of a toddler, you are probably looking for the right signs that your child is ready to be potty trained. Potty training your child can be a frustrating time in your life. When your child is ready to be potty trained, they will provide to you clues that the timing is right. If you capitalize on these clues, and use the right tools, this can be an exciting time in your life, as well as your child’s.

One of the first clues is that your child will show an interest in the toilet. Whether it is in a small toddler size one, or the regular commode in the bathroom, any curiosity about sitting on it is a sign that your child would like to use the potty. Another signal that your child may be ready to begin potty training, is that they start to tell you when they have either wet themselves, or had a bowel movement. Even the slightest indication from them, whether they point to their diaper, or tell you, is a sign that they may be ready.

Your child may also be waking up after naps or in the morning with a wet diaper. If this is the case, then your child is exhibiting signs of a bladder that is getting stronger, and possibly ready for potty training. Now that your child is showing signs of readiness in the potty training department, you are ready for some helpful tools to accomplish this task.

One tool to use is the Potty Training in One Day, with either the Potty Patty or Potty Scotty Doll. These dolls come with training pants, bottles to feed and a parents guide to potty training. These dolls are made to help your child celebrate their big day. You begin with changing the diaper on the doll and your child to training pants. There are extra training pants, as Patty/Scotty will have accidents throughout the day, which will show your child that it is ok to have accidents, but also encourage them to try and stay dry.

Another great tool is the Potty Musical Potty Chair. This chair is designed to help encourage potty training by playing “Old McDonald” once your child urinates in the chair. There is a built in sensor in the chair that is located in the front panel, and as your child goes potty, the sensor detects the moisture and begins playing the tune. The built in reward system of the music persuades your child to continue to try and use the potty. This seat has smooth sides and is specially made for your 1 to 3 year old.

Many children enjoy the encouragement of an outside source, other than a parent, to promote potty training. These tools are designed to reinforce and strengthen your words of affirmation while potty training. While potty training can be a frustrating experience for you, with a little help and support, and maybe a little music, too, your child will be using the potty in no time.

Potty Training Toddlers??

When did you start with the potty training? My daughter is 16 months old and has been showing us sign’s that she is ready I think. When she dirties her diaper she goes and get a clean one and when has been getting up in the morning she has been dry. Do you think she is ready or should I give it a little more time. I don’t want to be one of those pushy mom’s that wants there kids to do everything first. So when did you start and when were they officially potty trained
Jillian I meant to give you a thumb up and hit the wrong thumb. Sorry

Sounds as if she is ready to train. My daughter was clean and dry, day and night by 19 months, my son took forever! I think parental instinct should be the guide for when to start, and if you feel that now is the time to start, it probably is.
